You can only be a leader if you have someone following you

By Jeppe Dalgaard, Consultant, People & Performance A/S

Successful leaders know their impact on their surroundings, including employees, superiors and peers. They gain that insight by communicating with their employees, listening to the grapevine, and by acting on what is said behind closed doors and on others’ perception of his conduct.

Leaders who know how their surroundings affect them can act accordingly and be more confident that employees will accept necessary decisions and actions – whether they are popular or unpopular.

Surveys can be taken at all organisational levels
A ‘snapshot’ gives answers as to how the conduct and actions of leadership are perceived by the organisation and the employees.

A 360-degree survey looks into the conduct of a single leader and is based on questions asked to his superiors, peers and subordinates. By asking everybody in the immediate surroundings of a leader you gain thorough knowledge of how he is perceived. That knowledge is valuable when it comes to deciding further personal development measures.

A satisfaction survey is used to investigate the reaction of employees and/or customers to a given incident, be it internal or external.

Internal surveys give you a unique insight into your own organisation. Insight based on facts and clear truths rather than assumptions and guesswork makes it very valuable when, for example, you have to take key decisions.
