It is relatively easy to set objectives; but setting objectives does not mean that they are automatically going to be reached. When breaking down objectives, the whole team should be involved in order to identify and start on the most important efforts. It is focused action that helps to reach objectives, not the process of setting the objectives themselves.
Who
A leader must be able to engage and involve his team in reaching objectives. This implies that the leader must be able to conduct the breakdown of objectives with his team and use this method in his dialogue in order to build a solid, common foundation for excellent performance. If it is not clear to each individual team member which contributions are important, everyday priorities will be randomly made.
What
We work with breakdown processes for teams and individuals. The breakdown of objectives is not only about identifying contributions, but also about discovering the objectives that can be reached with the current resources, and the obstacles that need to be overcome. When an organisation’s leaders involve their employees in the breakdown of objectives, a common focus on the important contributions comes about – and that creates results!
