Cross-Cultural Leadership

One in China, one in the US, three in Poland, and five in Denmark….

Management of Danes is not the same as management of Russians, Chinese, Americans or Germans. An increasing number of leaders have to lead employees with different cultural backgrounds, and their experience is often that their cross-cultural toolbox lacks tools!

Who
Project managers or leaders who have employees in different cultural settings often feel that ‘there is something going on’ that cannot necessarily be described in words. That feeling stems from the cultural differences, norms and values. And leaders often ask themselves how to defy cultural barriers when they have to get messages across.

What
Training in cross-cultural leadership often starts by studying the cultural features that show the norms and values of the countries in question. This study is the basis for understanding and respecting the actions and motivations shown by staff members from other cultures. And understanding is the key to leading multi-cultural staff in an appreciative and respectful way.
