Planning & Prioritisation

Being busy is not the same as being efficient

“Once upon a time a lumberjack got a new axe. On the first day he was able to cut down twenty trees. Each day he worked longer and harder, yet he managed to cut down fewer and fewer trees. Another lumberjack came by and asked: “Why don’t you sharpen your axe?” The first lumberjack answered: “I’m too busy – I need to cut down more trees!”

We often lose perspective when we are heavily involved in everyday operational tasks. These are the questions you should be asking: What am I actually spending my time on? Have I decided on the right priorities? Do I work on the things that add most value to the organisation?

Who
Leaders who are too busy catching up with work they haven’t been able to do because of an inadvisable prioritisation of their activities will benefit from the People & Performance course on Planning and Prioritisation.

What
The planning of tasks needs a proactive focus to get a precise picture of how to prioritise, in order to continue focusing on the objectives that need to be reached.
